About Volunteering at Chayn

Getting to work, making an impact. 💪
Chayn operates with a global collective of volunteers, many of whom are survivors. We are always growing and looking for new volunteers to join our team! Our volunteers are our greatest strength - they come up with ideas for projects, co-lead our governance, and contribute to our resources to make sure that they are survivor-centred and encompass diverse perspectives from around the world. Volunteers are core to our organisation, our strategy, and our success. Volunteering at Chayn is completely remote, flexible, and we welcome individuals from anywhere in the world

We are always innovating on our volunteer programs! From software engineering programs, to research, advocacy, content, and more!
Volunteers begin with an application and induction call to ensure alignment, followed by an invitation.

Generally, we ask a commitment of 6–16 hours per month, depending goals. We work in 3-month cycles to set priorities, assign project leads, and support volunteers. Communication is mainly asynchronous, supplemented by collaboration calls, workshops, and planning sessions.
Volunteers can take breaks as needed, with the option to rejoin or stay connected as part of the community!
Join us today to make an impact, connect with like-minded individuals, and achieve meaningful goals together:

Our Values

Our trauma-informed approach to wellbeing and people management relies on individual and collective commitment to these values, which we incorporate in our work. These values outline how our community must treat each other in order for it to thrive.

We recommend you read these and think deeply whether you will be able to operate by these values, and if you agree with them. If you do not, then Chayn might not be a good place for you to thrive and it may act as a barrier for others to thrive in your presence too. We detail these on this page and also below:

Survivor-centred
We promote survivor leadership, agency, and welfare through the fabric of how we operate, what we work on, and when we work on it.

Trauma-informed
We minimise re-traumatisation in our survivor-facing work and within the team, by following our trauma-informed design principles and through continuous training, team support, and making room for recovery through rest and change.

Feminist with an intersectional lens
We recognise how harm manifests in different and disproportionate ways for people living at the intersection of multiple oppressions.

Open by default
We work collaboratively, have transparent work practices, and produce open-source materials. We are curious and open to learn, and we generously share our learnings, resources and services with the world. Our leadership encourages our peers to open up too.

Generous
We give each other the benefit of the doubt and care for each other’s growth with generosity.

Inclusive
We understand, appreciate, and acknowledge ways in which we are similar and different; we encourage working practices that leave no one behind.

Here's what our volunteering process currently looks like.
